Monfragüe National Park
The largest Mediterranean forest in the world. This ancient forest is home to over 280 vertebrate species and has the highest concentration of black vultures and Iberian imperial eagles anywhere in the world, two species which are as unique, as they are threatened. The UNESCO Biosphere Reserve “Monfragüe National Park” is a unique and untamed region of Mediterranean flora and fauna. It is the only place in Europe that hosts all the raptors native to the Mediterranean, and where the highly endangered black stork has found a refuge to escape extinction.
